CLIMATE CHANGE IS ALREADY A SUBJECT AT THE MUNICIPALITIES LEVEL

Climate change or ecological crisis are terms that resonate within society now more than ever. We observe that modern countries are changing their priorities and are increasingly addressing environmental issues within their policies. Climate change is perceived, discussed, and tackled even at the local government level. Cities must engage and respond to current climate challenges, and Žilina is no exception.

Therefore, the city of Žilina is involved in a project called "Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change in Žilina," financially supported by Norwegian grants and the state budget. The objective of this project is to implement measures at the municipal level to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance the city's ability to adapt to the ongoing climate change, which affects everyone. It is not only crucial to recognize but also to address and adapt to climate change in the long run.

An essential component of the project was the preparation and development of the Strategy and Action Plan for adapting to the adverse effects of climate change in the Žilina city area. The aforementioned strategic document was approved by the city council at its latest session. The approved strategy outlines the approach to current climate issues and sets specific measures aimed at ensuring sustainable functioning of Žilina amidst the ongoing climate change.

The resulting strategic document can be considered a modern and practically processed set of guidelines, comprehensible and accessible both for the city's administration and the general public. The final version of the Strategy and Action Plan for adapting to the adverse effects of climate change in Žilina will be made available and published on the project's website www.zilinaklima.sk.

The strategy was developed in line with existing strategic documents at the regional, national, and European Union levels. ASITIS s. r. o., the company with the lowest bid in the public procurement process, is the author of the Strategy.
