Greenery alley

638 trees of various species will be planted in Žilina in the scope of this activity. The outplanting will be implemented mainly as roadside avenues and tree alleys around the city center and industrial zones.

Species of trees resistant to climate change and pests are proposed. The health and vitality of the trees will be monitored.

The importance of outplanting new trees in urban spaces can be defined in three aspects.

ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECT:

  • reducing greenhouse gases,
  • improving air and water quality,
  • reducing the urban heat island effect,
  • reducing energy consumption,
  • reducing top soil erosion,
  • providing habitat for wildlife.

HEALTH AND SOCIAL ASPECT:

  • improving human health,
  • providing shade,
  • creating a visual and sound barrier,
  • beautifying the neighborhood,
  • making the street more attractive.

ECONOMIC ASPECT:

  • increasing property value,
  • improving the character of the place,
  • reducing the cost of cooling buildings,
  • increasing economic stability,
  • reducing spending on grey infrastructure,
  • prolonging service life of the road,
  • reducing storm water runoff.
